How to Change the Filter in Your Namu Namu Food Disposal
Share
Your Namu Namu electric composter works hard behind the scenes, quietly transforming food scraps into magic. But just like any unsung hero, it deserves a little maintenance love now and then — and that starts with changing the filter.
Here’s your complete guide to changing the filters — yes, there are two! — in your Namu Namu Food Disposal.
🛠 What You’ll Need
-
✅ A replacement filter
(Black| White) -
✅ A soft cloth or paper towel (optional, for wiping away any sneaky dust)
🔄 Step-by-Step Guide
Let’s break this down by filter type. Namu Namu has two filters: the white filter located at the back of the machine, and the black filter, which sits inside the composting unit itself. Here’s how to swap them both.
1. Turn Off and Unplug
This isn’t just about safety — unplugging your unit gives you better access and ensures nothing whirrs unexpectedly while you’re mid-swap. So go ahead, flip the switch and unplug it from the wall.
2. Open the Filter Compartments
-
White Filter:
Head to the back of your Namu Namu. You’ll see a compartment panel near the bottom. No tools needed. -
Black Filter:
First, remove the inner bucket. Once that’s out, look inside the main chamber — you’ll spot a black filter with an orange handle sticking out. That’s your target.
3. Remove the Old Filter
-
White Filter:
Before pulling it out, remove the small water tray located underneath it. Then simply slide the filter out with a gentle pull. -
Black Filter:
Grab the orange handle and pull the filter straight out. Don’t worry if there’s a bit of resistance — it’s just snug, not stuck.
🧼 Pro Tip: Now is a great time to give the filter compartments a quick wipe with your cloth. A little tidy-up keeps everything smelling nice and functioning smoothly.
4. Insert the New Filter
Time to bring in the reinforcements.
-
Slide the new filter into the exact spot the old one came from.
-
Make sure it's aligned properly and sitting snugly — no gaps or wobbles.
5. Close It All Up
-
White Filter: Pop the water tray back in and shut the rear compartment.
-
Black Filter: Place the compost bucket back into the machine
6. Plug It Back In & Power On
Plug your Namu Namu back in, turn it on.
Your bin is now fresh-filtered and ready for action again!
🕒 How Often Should You Change the Filters?
Don’t worry, this isn’t a weekly chore. Just keep these rough timelines in mind:
Filter Type | Recommended Replacement |
---|---|
Black Filter | Every 3 months |
White Filter | Every 6 months |
However, you may want to replace sooner if:
-
You smell something funky
-
The airflow seems blocked
-
Composting takes longer than usual
💡 Extra Tips from the Namu Namu Team
-
Keep a couple of spare filters in your cleaning cabinet so you’re never caught off guard.
-
Set a calendar reminder every 3–6 months.
-
Don’t try to wash or reuse the filters — they’re designed to be swapped out, not rinsed.
