Every kitchen produces scraps, and every batch of PlantMix needs somewhere to wait. The Compost Bin is the piece that holds both moments — the pause between the chopping board and the FC50, and the pause between the FC50 and the soil.

Prep on the board. Gather in the bin. Process in the FC50. Return the result to the garden and let it mature in the soil. One kitchen. One cycle.

Made to sit out, not hide away

Finished in warm off-white with a slim wire handle, the bin is designed for the benchtop rather than under the sink. The powder-coated steel body, coated inside and out, wipes clean easily and keeps its colour with daily use. A replaceable carbon filter sits inside the lid, absorbing odours as it works — no clips, no seals to fight with, just a lid that lifts with one hand.

Two sizes, two roles in the cycle

3L — for collecting. Holds 3.9 litres to the brim. It sits on the bench beside the chopping board, gathering peels, grounds and offcuts through the day before they move to the FC50.

6L — for holding. Holds 6.2 litres to the brim. This is where PlantMix waits after the FC50 has done its work — empty a cycle in as it finishes, and draw from the bin whenever the garden is ready. The dry material keeps well until you need it.

Where PlantMix waits for the garden

Fresh from the FC50, PlantMix is not quite ready for the garden on its own — it matures in the soil, mixed through at around 10–20%, over two to four weeks. The 6L holds it in the meantime. The powder-coated steel body keeps the dry material dry, and the carbon filter in the lid quietly keeps odours in check while it waits.

For apartment households, no backyard is needed to complete the loop — a planter or a few pots of open soil on the balcony will finish the job. Mix PlantMix through, give it its few weeks, and the cycle completes itself — from prep to soil.

The 6L is equally suited to larger households as a generous benchtop caddy, if collecting is all you need.

Worth knowing

• The finish is a warm off-white — softer than pure white, with a gentle cream undertone. It sits a shade warmer than the FC50's matte white.
• The tin is labelled 3L and 6L — we name our bins conservatively. Measured to the brim, they hold 3.9 and 6.2 litres.
• The bin stores scraps and holds PlantMix; it does not process them. Drying and grinding is the FC50's work, and maturing happens in the soil.
• The lid filter manages everyday odours and lasts around six months. It is not washable — an occasional airing in the sun helps it along. It is a different filter from the FC50's, so the two are not interchangeable.
• Emptying collected scraps every few days is still the best habit, particularly through an Australian summer.
• Care: hand wash with mild detergent and a soft sponge, then air-dry upside down. Not dishwasher safe.
